What is Artboy?

Artboy is the title of our senior thesis film that we've been working on since the spring. It is one of 6 films that was chosen by the Boston University Film Department to be produced in the honors-level class, Production III.

Artboy Logline:
When a shy high school artist, Liam, is rejected by his best friend Natalie, he must grapple with heartbreak at a party on Halloween night.

Artboy is a bittersweet coming-of-age-story about navigating friendship and social validation. The film will also feature brief 2D-animated sequences that bring us inside Liam’s internal world, featuring his confident alter-ego superhero: Artboy.

Who is Team Artboy?

The head crew of Artboy is made up of five important members. All are passionate filmmakers in their final year at Boston University. First meet Eli Canter, our writer, director and editor. He has been working on conceptualizing the film since the beginning of this year and is currently continuing the vision in post-production. He is the head of all creative aspects of the film and has been steering the team and story since day 1.

Next is Amanda Schneider, our producer. She has kept track of all logistical aspects that come into making a film. This includes everything from feeding the crew, securing locations, and coordinating travel. Her work is essential in creating an environment that fosters creativity for the whole crew.

Then there is our director of photography, Veronica Harris. Her role is to work with Eli in creating the visual storytelling of the film through both lighting and camera. In adding to that visual storytelling our production designer, Sophia Daniluk, takes care of dressing all the locations and costuming all the actors. This includes the custom costume she created for the film. Finally we have our sound designer and recordist, Elliot Wheeler. They are in charge of getting and leveling all the sounds and dialogue both on set and in post-production.

Why donate to Artboy?

Boston University is able to give each thesis film $1,000. Unfortunately, these funds aren't even enough to cover the cost of food for the cast and crew, let alone the additional costs of transportation, equipment, locations, animation, and production design. We'll soon need added help with post-production costs as well for: festival submissions, scoring, and travel.

The Artboy team believes in paying artists which is where a lot of the money we raise will go towards. We have two written pages total of animated sequences in the film. Finding an animator is hard and finding one that aligns with the style we are looking for is even harder.

We also have hired a local singer-songwriter to create an original song for the film. This is the song that our leading girl, Nathalie, plays at the end of the movie. All artists we hire are young students who are looking to turn their art into a career. A donation to Artboy not only supports young filmmakers at Boston University, but also young illustrators, animators and musicians.
